Don't be Hoodwinked: Pro-Life vs Obama's Health Care

MANHATTAN DECLARATION: PRO-LIFE NEWS

In an attempt to quell the outrage of pro-lifers that taxpayer dollars might be used to pay for abortion, President Obama signed an Executive Order on March 24, 2010, “to ensure that Federal funds are not used for abortion services.” The president's Executive Order did not satisfy pro-life groups, however. In fact, as the pro-life Family Research Council noted, the "uselessness" of the executive order was one of the few things that FRC and Planned Parenthood agreed on during the health care debate.

The National Right to Life Committee says that on June 28th, Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Joel Ario (appointed by Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell) issued a press release announcing that the federal Health and Human Services Department had approved his agency's proposal for establishing a high-risk health insurance pool in Pennsylvania

The National Right To Life (NRLC) noted that the Pennsylvania plan's section on abortion – found on page 14 of the plan -- says "elective abortions are not covered." But NRLC called that statement a "red herring”, because the operative language does not define 'elective.’

The Pennsylvania plan says it includes “only abortions and contraceptives that satisfy the requirements of (Pennsylvania law),” and it specifically refers to 18 Pa.C.S. § 3204-3206 and 35 P.S. §§10101, 10103-10105. The most pertinent law, according to NRLC, is 18 Pa. C.S. § 3204, which says that an abortion is legal in Pennsylvania if a single physician believes that it is “necessary” based on “all factors (physical, emotional, psychological, familial and the woman's age) relevant to the well-being of the woman.”

NRLC noted that Pennsylvania law bans abortion prior to 24 weeks, only if it is being done "solely because of the sex of the unborn child. Therefore, given the way the guidelines are written, under the Pennsylvania plan, “federal funds will subsidize coverage of abortion performed for any reason, except sex selection," said NRLC's Johnson.

“The Pennsylvania proposal conspicuously lacks language that would prevent funding of abortions performed as a method of birth control or for any other reason, except sex selection -- and the Obama Administration has now approved this," Johnson said. Susan Jones, Senior Ed at CNSNews.com 7/15/10

  1. Nanette,
It's a frightening thought that taxpayer money may be used to fund abortions.

  2. Mary..there should be a box on a person's payroll paperwork that if they want their money to be used to fund abortions just check the box. It's horrible enough that anyone's money could be used to fund murder, but I certainly don't want my money to be used! It's blood money! And I bet if they saw how much is coming out of their paycheck they'd think twice about funding abortion. Okay, so I'm venting. It upsets me that the government is trying to look innocent and fooling the public with play on words. N

  3. Thanx for this post Nanette.

In the UK too, sadly, abortions continue.

If you follow this link, you'll hear a song which has saved many babies from abortion - http://timeforreflections.blogspot.com/2010/06/cry-from-heart-pro-life-song-by-father.html

You can follow this singing priest on You Tube - just search for Father Francis Maple.

    God bless you.

  4. Nanette,
Certain charities fund abortions, also. My husband's boss was very irritated with him because he chose not to give to the company's charity of choice. Most employees have automatic withdrawals from their paychecks that is sent to United Way but United Way funds abortion so Randy refused. I think his boss thought he was nitpicky because they also do other things that are good.

  5. Mary: Yes, had the same experience with DH's job, too. Sorry, but the evil outweighs the good United Way does. Also, our Archdiocese has a fund in November....the Human Development Fund, be careful of that one, too. It funds some very liberal causes and organizations. Conservatives have been fighting to stop this collection, and we choose to give to our local food bank instead of this fund letting our church know how we feel about it! N

  7. To Mary 333: I don't give to United Way anymore for the same reasons that your husband stopped giving. My company is very large, and this is the only charity that they support.

As far as Obama care, I am scared to death of it. Not only because of the babies that will be killed due to a government sponsored health care paid in part by my tax dollars, but what is going to keep the government from killing the old and affirmed to save money.

  8. Thanks for posting this. The pro-death cabal will stop at nothing to use public money to kill, kill, kill. It's sad so many women use abortion as birth control. The people for this abominable practice are utterly dishonest as all murderers are. Their agenda is wealth for themselves. One day they will be the ones who are facing a death IV when others have decided they have outlived their usefulness. What is heartening is that many young people today are pro-life all the way. We must pray that this trend continues.

I found you through Mary333 and invite you to join Catholic bloggers at RAnn's http://rannthisthat.blogspot.com/ blog "This, That, and the Other Thing" in her Sunday Snippets - A Catholic Carnival meme where we share our favorite posts of the week.
