America IS a Christian Nation

Thanksgiving Proclamation by George Washington
3 October 1789
(bulletin cover-St. Peter's RC Church, DeLand, Fl)
Contrary to what Liberals and President Obama would like us and the rest of the world to believe....America is a Christian nation. She is a country built on God's principles and laws. Are we a diverse nation? Yes. Do we accept all beliefs? Yes. Freedom of Religion. It is what makes us great and why faith-filled pilgrims made the arduous journey here. And what thousands have died for.

We have the right to build a church, a synagogue, a temple anywhere, even a mosque on the sacred ground of the World Trade Center. Are all religions given equal respect or political correctness? No. One wouldn't dare put a Torah scroll in a jar of body fluid. One wouldn't depict Fatima, the daughter of Portugal's last Muslim chief, wrapped in a condom...rioting would erupt. YET...it is perfectly acceptable to do all this and worse to a replica of Christ, the Holy Eucharist and the Blessed Mother. The MainStream Media praises artists for doing so. It is Art(less).

Regardless of the Christian symbols embroidered onto America's tapestry, certain groups stand firm that our nation is not Christian. They disregard what our Founding Fathers wrote and spoke regarding God's imprint on America. They are conveniently oblivious to the Christian symbols on our currency, post office buildings, court houses....that the heart of Washington D.C. is arranged in a Cross or the dozens of biblical references on monuments. Somehow, the Intolerants think if they say we aren't a Christian nation often enough, loud enough it will be true. George Washington would bellow a protest at this notion. Perhaps the Holy Spirit, knowing what would come to pass, prompted him to write the above Thanksgiving Proclamation.

Our All-Knowing God foresaw the moral decay of a country dedicated to Him. Stores that remained closed on Sunday, the Sabbath, would be ridiculed because "those people" wanted a day to worship Him...to enjoy a day of rest with their families. Malls would be open on sacred days...Easter and Christmas....forcing many to labor so that business owners can vacation in Aruba on the 26th of December each year. We are a nation on the precipice of losing our soul. Yet there is hope, for Washington interceded for America with the words, "that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions." Our merciful God will honor the request of this great leader, a president to be proud of, a president blessed by God to bless His nation.

So here it is...Thanksgiving, a holiday of gratitude for countless blessings, both personally and as a country. It is a time when being a Christian nation is tolerated.  It is a great time to remind everyone that the United States of America IS "One nation under God"....and I pray she will always remain a Christian nation hugging all faiths to her bountiful bosom.

The Scent of New Normal

New Normal. I first read those words in  90 Minutes In Heaven by Don Piper. Pastor Piper had survived a horrific accident, and life as he knew it, ended. Each day, whether a day of struggle, pain or doubt or a day of joy, was now his "New Normal".  Forget about the life we are familiar with...when it changes, it becomes the life we now have. Embrace it....it's yours.

My New Normal is wonderful, so why the belly-jitters? I had prayed for twenty years that my husband and I would retire to Florida. We have. I dreamt of hibiscus flowers. I have three trees. I'm healthy, fit, happy and content.

So? Why the butterflies? Why the gut-tightening feeling? Two days ago, I dedicated my walk not to my daily rosary, but to sorting the whys. It was a glorious autumn day...mid-seventies, sunny, breezy. I walked the mile to Victoria Commons, then made my way around the community pond.

I took a deep cleansing breath. Ah, autumn without leaf raking and anticipation of snow-rutted roads or black ice. The sun was warm on my face. Another deep breath. A whiff of smoke passed under my nose. Local farmers were control burning somewhere in the distance. I knew this, yet I pictured a roaring fireplace instead.  It triggered half-forgotten memories that could be tasted. My stomach flip-flopped. The scent of pine rose up before me. Around me were dozens of pine trees, their needles a carpet on either sides. The sun dappled on the pond. That's how God must smell, like pine...clean, woodsy. A masculine scent. Prayers drift up to Him like incense, the fragrance like the smoke around me, earthy and pungent. I closed my eyes. How could this be Florida? Smoky air, pine trees with pine cones of gigantic proportions? But it was Florida. And the reason for my excitement.

Thanksgiving and Christmas were peeking around the corner. I couldn't wait to prepare my first holiday dinner in my new home. God had gotten me here by way of a bumpy road. My New Normal was being a retired Floridian living in a community I love. I felt like a new creation, a kid again. I was filled with sheer excitement.  My tired decorations--straw pumpkins, baskets of silk flowers and a pine cone turkey that Jared made in kindergarten-- now looked perky and fresh. I saw this all with childlike vision. It's the way God sees us....as children. In His eyes, we are innocent and apt to fall in a pile of pine needles. He plucks them off us and steadies us on our feet.

Every day can be a new normal if that's what we desire. Or it may-- just happen. For me, it took years of waiting, an abundance of prayers, much faith and many falls. God dusted me off and set me back on my feet. He gave me the desire of my heart. I knew it when the well-beloved scents of the north  became a familiar fragrance of the south.

New York will always be a part of me. It's said....you can take the girl out of the Bronx but can't take the Bronx out of the girl. It isn't the snow storms or ice slick roads I will recall, but the scent of a crackling fire and huge, sticky pine cones. It's autumn at home. Autumn in my new normal, Florida.

Back Door Blessings

If Back-Door guests are the best, then Back-Door blessings are even better. This is an unexpected blessing that pows you right in the kisser. You don't see it coming and in my case was, at first, painful.

On August 28, 2011, Hurricane Irene blew through NY. A NY hurricane is rare and doesn't usually make landfall.  Hurricane Irene had been predicted as mainly a wind event. We had National Flood Insurance because our home was close to the Mahwah river. When we bought our home, 28 yrs ago, it would take 5 days of rain or a tremendous snow melt to get 2 inches of water in our basement. Over time, the Town of Ramapo & Village of Montebello failed to do the proper dredging and it took just a few hours of rainfall for water to rise at the edges of our backyard. "Fighting City Hall" was futile...we were always on their "work order".

So, when the forecast called for a hurricane, we took our valuables to the second floor, lifted the furniture on saw horses, waited & prayed. Saturday night the winds howled, the rain beat mercilessly. We checked the basement on Sunday at 9 AM....the carpet was dry. We had dodged the bullet...Not!  Suddenly at 10 AM, we heard a hellish sound....crack, crack, pop! Were the basement windows shattering? No. The foundation of our home was caving in! We raced to a neighbor on higher ground. All we could do was watch. And pray. The event was over by 1 PM.
Finished Basement Before Damage
Destruction! Note the water in the clock
This story actually begins over 15 years ago. I started to pray about our retirement many years ahead of time. I don't believe in praying for a need just before it is needed. For instance, I prayed about my future daughter-in-law when my son was 14! Four sisters and my parents had moved to Florida...I dreamt of Hibiscus flowers each day. Visualization and all that. My only child had moved to Florida. I couldn't think of a better place for retirement. In 2009, my husband accepted an offer from his company and we put our house on the market. It was the midst of the housing crisis. 2,000 homes in our county were for sale. What was the chance our home in a flood zone would sell? It was a lovely Cape Cod and all who saw it thought it was "darling", but....

Nothing deterred me. All things are possible for those who love the Lord.....right? I had Masses celebrated for this intention, said novenas to every saint possible, buried dear St. Joseph in my garden AND said his novena for 6 months straight. I offered my daily rosary for the sale of my home. Certainly, the Holy Family was interceding? Every priest, nun, fellow Christian, even a Bishop or two were praying for my intention.....nothing. Silence. My family and friends continued to encourage me. Delay is not denial. But when Lord? When? I vacillated between stoic resolve and a raving maniac! I prayed just as hard for the family that would purchase my home. "God let them love it as much as we do....let them have as many happy years as we've had". There were times I couldn't pray another word....stopped praying to Let Go & Let God. That didn't last....so I prayed even harder and well....raged a bit more. What kind of woman of faith was I?

Finally my prayers were answered...in the form of Hurricane Irene. 9 homes in a row were damaged, but ours was the only one taken off its foundation. Had the damage been less severe, we would have had to rebuild, put it on the market again....and perhaps still be there. A wonderful general contractor and a engineer, whom I had met through a church project, gave us a quote to raise our home above flood level and the cost to demolish the house totally. The cleaning out, the decision making, the FEMA paperwork was overwhelming. My health was affected. We were living with in-laws. We were "homeless" at the age of 60! What was God thinking?

He was thinking of us. He loved us more than I realized. He didn't do this, but allowed it to happen for good reason....to answer my prayers. How could I have doubted? He had it under control all along. Not just for me, but for the family who might have purchased our home. Perhaps, a young family holding a huge mortgage. Hadn't I prayed for them, too? My husband and I could shoulder this misfortune. After all, we didn't have a mortgage...we wanted to retire....we had two dear men who surprised us with an offer to buy our home (for a pittance) and would "flip" it. The money didn't matter....we wanted out. We learned God was in the details. My faith, my relationship with my husband grew stronger. When even a niggling of doubt nibbles at me...I slap it down. God always has a plan...the best plan. I just need to trust in His Divine Mercy and enjoy the ride...which took me to Florida a week before Thanksgiving 2011. I'm truly thankful, thankful for my blessings, my Back-Door blessing.
Our St. Joe home in Florida!
BTW, the builder of my new home? St. Joe...does God have a sense of humor, or what?

This is NOT Jesus!

Our Lord
On His Cross
Is Once Again Publicly
Mocked Before The Whole World
Blasphemy!
“P*** Christ”

This Is Disgusting....& I'm Disgusted!!
(Please read with caution. This is very disturbing.)
Here we go, again. The Evil just keeps on comin'! Imagine the riots that would take place if this Artless junk was displayed in the Middle East?! May God have mercy on Serrano's soul.

Our Lord Jesus Christ died on the Cross to save us from our sins – can we not, at the very least, speak out in His defense?
I’m deeply pained to tell you that Our Lord Jesus Christ, Who suffered the torture-death of crucifixion in order to redeem mankind, is blasphemed at the Edward Tyler Nahem gallery in mid-Manhattan, New York City.

The gallery is hosting an art exhibit that includes Andres Serrano’s notorious “P*** Christ” - - - according to press reports, a photograph of a beautiful crucifix immersed in Mr. Serrano’s urine.
The gallery’s curator, Walter Robinson, according to The Huffington Post, seems to admire Serrano’s audacity: “When it comes to the global stage of the spectacle, many are called but few are chosen, but those who are [chosen], like Serrano…are to be admired.”
View article & photo "celebrating" this disgusting art(less) Disturbing!!

This high-profile, blasphemous presentation of Our Lord’s holocaust on His cross, plunged in the artist’s own urine is planned to be exhibited for a month, from this Thursday, Sept. 27 through October 26.
You and I cannot sit by idly and do nothing about this awful blasphemy! We must do reparation and lift up our voices in peaceful and prayerful protest.

The silence and indifference of Catholics serves only to encourage the promoters of blasphemy to push their agenda.

And why so many blasphemies?

I don’t have all the answers, but we cannot allow this to shake the deep love and veneration you and I have for Our Sweet Savior, Jesus.

You and I must strive to increase our love for Our Lord by protesting blasphemy with ever-greater zeal and increasing our acts of reparation!

I’m sure you agree that we must rise to this occasion and protest, with all our hearts.

We must show Jesus that we care, and that we love Him, our Redeemer, and that we will defend His honor no matter how many times He is attacked and insulted.

And our prayerful protest and reparation is the only way of showing our gratitude and our only hope of redeeming ourselves.

That is why I am urging you to speak out, and to:
Send your E-Protest to Defend Our Lord's Honor!

God does not need our help to defend His honor, but He does require our love for Him be made manifest.

Memo: Politically Pooped

I'm politically pooped. I'm tired of all the emails, discussions, heated debates, and the TV advertisements. I'm tired of media back-stabbing and the sniping among friends.  It hurt to hear that a neighbor said, "the Democrats are the intelligent people".  Ouch.  Guess I missed that memo.  I don't need another political email to convince me that we are in the midst of spiritual warfare. At this point, it's just preaching to the choir. I can't believe there are citizens still on the fence about which candidate they will vote for. Bunk.

I am proudly voting for Romney/Ryan. And will continue to pray for them until election day & beyond. I cannot separate my moral values from my political convictions, like Cuomo & Pelosi. I am pro-American, pro-Israel, pro-Life, pro-Traditional Family and a practicing Catholic. I cannot vote for Obama and stand before God unashamed. IF he is re-elected, then America & Israel deserve what it gets for not reading 4 years worth of memos. I have a clear conscience. I will pray for myself and my loved ones and be grateful that my son is too old to be called to military duty.

There's a part of me that would like all those voting for the deceiver to have bumper stickers that indicate this so I know who to blame when we go down the toilet. BUT, the Christian part of me would like to know who voted for the scam-man in the White House so I can pray for their souls.

photobucket.com
God works in mysterious ways. He is too much a gentleman to force the minds/hearts of His children to vote for a more godly president & vice president. God has His reasons for everything. Perhaps, Obama needs to be president again to usher in the final days of this End Time. Maybe the Mayans are right...the world will end on December 21, 2012. That gives Obama only a month and a half to wreak havoc on our great nation. What does he have to lose? There's no third term.

It's estimated that with the many global wars currently taking place, between 50 & 100 million Muslim refugees will need safe havens.  It wouldn't be politically correct in America to allow asylum to one group of illegals and not to another group, now would it?  If Obama's brothers-in-faith get their way, this could be our last election. Sharia law in this Christian nation with the Blessed Mother as its patron saint combined with the destruction of Yahweh's beloved Israel could certainly stir God's wrath. He may be full of kindness & compassion, but you don't spit in His face & not expect The Just Judge to react!

IF Avi Lipkin, a world renowned Israeli expert on Jewish/Arab relations is correct, Brief Introduction to Avi Lipkin. there are documents where Obama has stated "First I'll take care of the Health Care System, then wait and see what I have in store for Israel". He makes no bones about his animosity toward Israel, yet somehow many American Jews haven't gotten that memo. Regardless, this Catholic woman is rooting for Israel. I'd be "renting my garment" as a symbol of anguish if the Vatican was under such blatant assault. Perhaps, when Obama is through with Israel, he will focus more on the destruction of the Catholic Church since it is a major barrier in his promotion of Marxism. Does Frank Marshall Davis ring a bell? Dreams From My REAL Father Video by Joel Gilbert

All-in-all, I can't wait for this election to be over. I pray there will be no regrets. I pray that if, God-forbid, Barack Hussein Obama gets re-elected there won't be wailing & gnashing of teeth when the snot hits the fan. Aside from God's protection, I hope I receive early delivery of The Final Memo.

Nickelodeon Has My Blood Boiling!

Okay, It's been a year since I blogged on the Crooked Halo. In short, my home was destroyed by Hurricane Irene August 2011 and life has changed drastically. I no longer live in NY and now call Florida....home. Thank you, God.

I thought my first post as a Floridian would be about Back-Door Blessings and how God works for good for those who love Him. I will write that post, BUT not yet.

Nickelodeon Has My Blood Boiling and the Holy Spirit  prompted me to write this piece before I cool down.

I consider myself a mature woman aware of the ways of our society, and beyond being shocked by what I see and hear. Apparently, I'm not beyond being shocked. If you choose to read Jason Biggs' blog, be forewarned that it is appalling, disgusting and then some. His wife is no better than he.

I respect the right to Freedom of Speech, but this, but this should be cause to put someone in prison. The fact that Nickelodeon, a program for children, hasn't fired this pervert is beyond comprehension. The fact that children are encouraged to read Jason Biggs' twitters is the work of Satan. Aside from sending a protest to Nickelodeon, please, pray for Jason Biggs and his wife.  They have much to answer for before God. And He is the *Just Judge* who states that if anyone harms a child, tie a millstone around his neck and cast him into the sea. There isn't a millstone heavy enough for Jason Biggs.
Twitchy.com an interesting & informative site. This is the Home Page...below (where the picture of beautiful Megyn Kelly is formatted) is the link to the offensive post written by Jason Biggs, but accessed through Twitchy.

I am posting a copy of the email from The American Family Association that set me off. I hope it prompts you, also, to take action. Please alert your friends & family members about this issue. Send it especially to anyone who has children, grand kids, etc. This is the time to overthrow the evil in our society! For it to continue to exist, good people must do nothing.
Nickelodeon is standing by actor, Jason Biggs, despite his despicable actions. Where do you stand?

Dear Nanette,
Columnist Ben Shapiro put it best.
Nickelodeon, the kids' TV channel, apparently sees no problem with directing children to the Twitter feed of one of its voiceover stars, Jason Biggs - even if Biggs tweets reprehensible things about conservative political women like Janna Ryan, wife of VP candidate Paul Ryan.
It would be difficult to describe Biggs' tweets as anything other than the worst sort of human depravity. You can see them here, but be warned, they are very offensive.
Nickelodeon hired Jason Biggs as a voice actor on their new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show and is promoting his Twitter account to the children who follow them. But a growing number of concerned parents and outraged citizens are attempting to stop Biggs in his tracks by calling on Nickelodeon to fire him for his disgusting tweets.
Mr. Biggs recently tweeted despicable and violent things regarding Mrs. Romney, Mrs. Ryan and Christians.
Nickelodeon is encouraging children, especially the young boys likely to be fans of this show, to see Biggs' vile tweets on a daily basis.
So far, Nickelodeon has remained silent on Jason Biggs future employment.
TAKE ACTION
Send an email to Nickelodeon president Cyma Zarghami now, urging the children's television network to fire Jason Biggs today!

Xrated language and disturbing photos. You've Been Warned!  As Twitchy reported earlier today, Nickelodeon is now actively encouraging children to visit misogynist Jason Biggs’s filth-filled Twitter page. In light of that, we thought this might be a good time to recap just a few of the quotable quotes Biggs’s young fans will see.

This afternoon on “America Live,” Fox News’ Megyn Kelly discussed the controversy over actor Jason Biggs’ filthily misogynistic tweets about Paul Ryan, Janna Ryan, and Ann Romney. Twitchy has been on top of this story and has covered it at length, but today marks the first time a major media outlet has addressed it.
Viewers were thrilled that Biggs’ comments were finally being spotlighted by the national media.

God Bless America!

St Gemma Galgani, the Passion Flower

St Gemma Galgani
"The Gem of Christ"
1878-1903
Saint of the Passion of Jesus
post adapted from http://www.stgemmagalgani.com/ written by
Glenn Dallaire
I wish, oh Jesus, that my voice could reach to the ends of the world, to call all sinners and tell them to enter into Thy Heart....Oh, if only all sinners would come to Thy Heart!... Come! Come sinners, do not be afraid! The sword of Justice cannot reach you Here!"~St Gemma Galgani

Young saints fascinate me. I gravitate to the stories of the innocent who have dedicated their lives to Christ at a young age. Me, at almost 60, is just now getting the hang of it! How could one not admire, 18 year old Blessed Chiara Luce Badano (see my post on her beatification) and what about the Children of Fatima?  I think their sacrifice, their love and devotion is made even more profound because of the contrast in the behavior of many young folk today.  On that note: I'm so proud of all the youth who had visited Madrid, Spain to see Pope Benedict and those in years past who made the pilgrimage during World Youth Day. How special and blessed they all are!

I first heard of St. Gemma through my brother-in-law, David. He visited Italy where his Italian born mother-in-law "introduced" him to this beautiful saint. David had an immediate soft spot for her. Perhaps, it was his own suffering that helped form this bond. You see, David, suffered a debilitating blood disease. He endured excruciating pain for over 11 years and on many occasions spent his vacation bed-ridden in a hotel room. He hated to deny his young wife the pleasure of traveling and enjoying life, so he forced himself to accompany her on various trips. On one of these trips, he lay in a bed, in a strange country, in a strange room and stared endlessly at a photo of St. Gemma, praying to her to intercede for him and others. David was a saint in his own right. He never complained or asked, "Why me?" Rather, he'd say, "Why not, me?" Over and over, he would ask us to pray for someone who was suffering, too. He was sweet and kind with a generous heart. David died peacefully at the age of 46. I have no doubt that St. Gemma greeted him at Heaven's gate.

Having lost her mother at a young age, St. Gemma, had a deep and intense devotion to the Blessed Mother. “If God has taken away my mother,” she would often say, “He has left me His own.”  .

On Thursday, June 8th, the eve of the Feast of the Sacred Heart, when she began, as usual, to make the Holy Hour, she felt a piercing sorrow for her sins such as she had never experienced, and a peculiarly vivid sense of the sufferings of Jesus. Suddenly she was rapt in ecstasy and found herself in presence of her heavenly Mother and her Guardian Angel. The phenomenon was repeated regularly every Thursday evening. Gemma seemed to pass through all the phases of the Passion and bore in her body all the marks of Christ's physical sufferings: not only the wounds in hands, feet, and side, but the punctures of the crown of thorns, the marks of the scourging, the wound on the shoulder caused by the weight of the Cross, all accompanied with the most excruciating pain. Throughout those hours she engaged in loving conversations and colloquies with Jesus in a low voice, often tenderly pleading for mercy for sinners and offering herself as a victim in expiation for their sins.
Gemma’s whole life indeed was one long uninterrupted sacrifice of the most heroic kind. To win souls for Jesus through prayer and suffering was the one passion of her life. A witness stated, “She was much afflicted by the thought of the sins committed in the world and she often offered herself to God on behalf of sinners.”

Life was not easy for Gemma. Like David, she suffered a series of illness from a severe foot infection to spinal tuberculosis. Her poor health prevented her from entering the religious life. But her devotion to Christ never wavered. Though denied entry into the Passionist community, she modeled her life after the nuns she so admired, and led the life of a Passionist Nun outside the cloister. She strictly adhered to the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience.
St. Gemma during
her illness
Toward the end of her life, Gemma, focused much of her prayers on the establishment of a convent for the Passionist Nuns in Lucca.  She even searched Lucca more than once for a suitable site and interested herself in the material funds necessary for the foundation. Two years after Gemma’s death the first little group of Passionist Sisters came to Lucca, and though they met with many obstacles and disappointments, a full community took possession of the new convent in 1908. Her hope to become a Passionist nun was eventually realized after her death. She was known to have said,“I no longer ask to enter a convent . . . . Jesus has the habit of a Passionist nun waiting for me at the gates of Heaven." And "The Passionist nuns would not accept me,” she had said, “but for all that I wish to be one of them, and I shall be with them when I am dead.”

On Good Friday, she entered with outstretched arms into a prolonged ecstasy, nailed, as she said, with Jesus to the Cross. The end came peacefully when with a look of seraphic joy on her face she gave up her pure soul to God an hour after midday on Holy Saturday, April 11th, 1903. Gemma Galgani was beatified by Pope Pius XI on May 14th, 1933, and canonized by Pope Pius XII on Ascension Thursday, May 2nd, 1940. Today the Passionist convent in Lucca continues to flourish. Gemma’s body reposes near the altar in the little chapel and the nuns venerate her as their foundress and the patroness of their work. The feast of St Gemma is April 11th (and also May 16th for those in the Passionist Congregation).       St. Gemma Booklet Offer

"I have loved You, oh Jesus. Grant me to love You even more, so that my thoughts turn only to You, all day, and all night, even while sleeping ... I wish my spirit to talk always with You, my soul to converse always with You." -St Gemma Glagani

Much of the credit for this post goes to Glenn Dallaire, a devout Catholic father and husband. His love and admiration of St. Gemma prompted him to write a most remarkable blog, St. Gemma Galgani. I was just fortunate to find it and share it with the wonderful bloggers who read, The Crooked Halo. His outstanding writing doesn't stop here, so read....Mystics Of The Church, Miracles Of The Saints, St. Paul Of The Cross, & Miracles Of The Church.  I feel so blessed to have discovered this wealth of spiritual information and humbled that Christ led me to Glenn's blogs. Oh,  and I bet David had a hand in this "coincidence", too. Thanks, Davey.
Prayer to St Gemma Asking For Her Intercession

Oh holy Gemma, I am near you, help me to pray. You who know what I and those near me need; look after my urgent needs and my spiritual and material wants. You take care of them! I confide in you and entrust all to your loving care.
Offer up to Jesus that tender and constant care that you bore Him here on earth.
Oh holy Gemma, you who physically suffered all the pains of the Passion of Jesus, I beseech of you the grace to meditate on and live the Passion of Jesus, and the sufferings of Holy Mary. Pray that I will be able to walk in the path of humility, simplicity, love and sacrifice, fulfilling at all times and in all ways, the holy will of God. Let me live united with Jesus, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and you, for all eternity. Amen
St. Gemma, pray for us!
